I went out to do something
in my pond one morning last week
and "my duck" flew out of the shrubs.'s a nest.
It's hard to see the indentation
in this picture, but it's definitely there.
(The dry chips)

She still doesn't look like she's "with egg".

I guess she must will be interesting
to see how many we end up with.
Over the next few days there were more eggs.
She keeps her nest covered now
so it's difficult to know exactly
how many eggs there actually are.

Hopefully we will have little ones to count.

To be continued........

People seem very surprised
that Mollie doesn't bark.

"Doesn't she ever bark?"
( I'm often asked.)

Just let her see one of the feral cats
 in the back yard
looking for a vole dinner..
Look out !!
(Turn up your volume
so you can hear her growl )
Small but mighty.

(Of course the tail is wagging the entire time.)

After several weeks and about 30 photos,
I finally got a clear one !!

Soon after, this cute
little downy woodpecker stopped by.

I haven't seen any woodpeckers for
several years.
I haven't been putting any suet out for them.
I hope he found something to his liking.

My pond looks pretty gloomy all winter
 when it's
covered with snow and ice.

Slowly but surely it comes to
life with the arrival
of sunlight and warmer temperatures.

Unfortunately I seem to have developed
a waterfall leak..
kinda comes with the territory.
I know where the leak is but I haven't been
able to seal it...
I turned off the waterfall and put
a pump with a little fountain in the pond
so there is some water movement.
Maybe I'll put some flowers on the waterfall.

Several years ago, Joe built a chest
for me
to house my filter.

Previously I had it covered with rocks
making access for cleaning cumbersome.

I just happened to catch sight of one
of the six tadpoles.
I have only seen them twice since
they were introduced to the pond.
This one is turning it's dark bullfrog
color and beginning to take on
the shape of a frog..

WHO ME ???

I have recently been referred to as
" a tweaker. "

Busy tweaking !!!

Finished tweaking (for now).

Why does one tweak??

1. dissatisfaction
2. boredom
               3. Just thinking something
            can be improved upon.
       4. All of the above.

Yup...I'm a tweaker, for sure.
Guilty as charged..

I have only a few places in my home
where I am able to safely
display live flowers.
This is why:

Ah, just out of reach !
Max enjoys a little variety in his diet.
(his stomach does not)

It's a shame that flowers on blooming
 shrubs and trees
don't last longer.
(this is actually a deep burgundy)

" Maybe if I disguise myself
as a toy,
I'll be left alone."

" I'll just lie perfectly still..."

" No such luck !!"

No peace for Max...
as long as Mollie Lollie is around.
" Maybe I can hide in here...
but I could get trapped."

" I know nothing "

It's early in "Pond season".
The fish are just beginning to come out
of dormancy.
It's too cold to start feeding them because
they don't digest their food while
they are dormant.
Feeding them too early could kill them.

I no longer have fish in my pond.
There are many egrets and blue Herons
in the area and several years ago
they cleaned out my pond
now I have tadpoles that turn in to
bullfrogs and entertain me
throughout the summer.
(pictures to follow).

This morning I went to the local
"pond store" and bought six tadpoles.
Some of them have legs already.
Having worked there, I caught half of them
myself...(helpful me).
The rocks they have in the display
are pretty
but make it difficult to net them
without hurting them.
I caught mine by hand just like
the good old

When I brought them home, I floated them
in the pond so they could
become acclimated to the new
water temperature.

Welcome home little buddies.

I also picked up some water hyacinths.
( the pond version of clover.)
They are not hardy, spread rapidly
and provide much needed early
 season shade.
Shade supposedly keeps down
the algae growth.

They get purple , hyacinth looking flowers.
I have bought them that way
but never had any bloom in my pond.

I'm sure there will be more
from the pond as the season progresses.

Thanks for making me
feel special.

As you can see,
the flowers are nestled in a darling
birdhouse teapot
adorned with bluebirds.

The flowers are blue hydrangea, yellow roses,
white mums and white daisys.

Max thinks someone ordered takeout.
(barely out of their wrapping)

I had to move them quickly
to a "Max free" place.
Thanks so much B&J.
They will brighten up my
I am very appreciative of
your thoughtfulness.

(And just at a time when I thought I
had nothing to write about :)  )

I used to try to control
 this type of behavior.

Max didn't used to defend himself.

He has certainly come a long way.
I  often wake up in the morning,
 to his
 flopping around on the floor
like a fish out of water.
It usually ends with
his jumping up on the bureau
to safety.
And who do you think the winner is??

" I can't find the number...
are you SURE it's a local number ?"

" Are you SURE that you have the
correct spelling?? "
( Max doesn't have a lot of patience.)

The robbins spend a lot of time
bathing in their new spa
( Thanks again B&J. )

( This is the short version.)

The water is very muddy when they are
Most of the water has been splashed
out of the birdbath.

They need to leave some for those
that use it as a drinking fountain.

And, as ever standing by,
( or sitting by )
the ever present " quackers " ).

She still doesn't look like
she's "with egg"...

" Hey fellas..I found a really cool place
where we can just hang out.
Whatcha think?? "

And not to be left out,

Mollies  buddy,  "Chippy"
