Today I went over to the local nursery
and gift shop mostly for something to do.

It's not a great time of year for flowers.
 Most are very picked over
 and look pretty seedy.
( The 4 inch pots are a dollar, larger ones
are buy one get one free.)
I don't know about you but I'm tired of watering.

There is usually a large variety of things
to see.... not so much today.

This sweet little fairy garden is a fun project.
I've seen it wonderfully improved upon..
I guess it could be changed for the seasons.
The fairies may want to go ice skating.

Eveything is not so cute or beautiful (to me).
I guess these are Pittsburgh Steeler trees.
It took me awhile to figure out why one
would want one of these ugly things.
I'm a firm believer that

These are very cute but it's a shame
that marketing and profit margins
make us rush the seasons as we do.

This stand never changes.
It's good for all seasons and very tasty.
Maybe it should change a little for those of us
who visit often ????
"Variety is the spice of life".??
Although I must admit, I never go home
without a couple of snickerdoodles.

These are strangely colored tomatoes.
They weren't labeled as to type.
Does anyone know if they are grown to look like this?
All and all, I didn't find my visit very exciting.
I guess it's because summer is ending.
( I hope).
and fall isn't here yet.
(Can't wait).

My neighbor is a wonderful cook and
to her, it's a hobby, an escape...

Debbie called me to come over
to see if this cake was "OK".
"OK??..It's beautiful."
It has a beach theme..
Sea horses... shells....coral..
The icing is marshmallow fondant.

Her daughter is getting married
next year and she is going to make
the wedding cake.
I think we'll have lots of cake
between now and then.
She's very critical of things she does.
I guess that's what makes them exceptional.

Today she was practicing
making bridesmaids bouquets.
She's definitely not happy with this.
Could be the dead flowers..still pretty though.
What's next Deb???

I was born here in
The Lying Inn of the Pennsylvania Hospital.

These pictures were taken at
my maternal grandparents home.

Here I am on my mothers horse  "Gladstone"
with my grandmother at the bridle.

There are those who say
I look like my mother.

Tubby Time

One of my grandmothers said I was
always scowling.

My first concert...

Ann and I were usually dressed
in matching pinafores.

Merry Christmas

I think my grandmother
gave me a hockey stick for my birthday.

We always got dressed up for Christmas eve.
Unfortunately,very few of these pictures
are labeled , so who knows what year this is??
I suspect this is the early 70's.
All of my teen years are on slides
that are long gone.

Oops...looks like I posted this before..
I can't imagine how this happened..
Sorry..It was very unintentional..
Enjoy !!!

Somehow, throughout my lifetime,
 I seem to have acquired
a number of clocks.

Some tall, some short.

Some very old (1800's),
Some more contemporary.

Some valuable...Some, not so much..

Some are decorative and just for fun !!

Only a few keep time correctly
but they all, in their own way,
have a purpose.
Having a purpose is important
even if you're just a clock.

I looked out at my pond this morning
and what did I see?

A Water Hyacinth !!!

I've had a pond for 9-10 years
and never had one bloom.
They multiply like rabbits and are great
early shade providers but look like this
without flowers all summer.

When you buy them at the local nursery,
they sometimes have flowers on them
but they quickly die and never reappear.

The water lilies also provide shade but they
take some time to rise to the surface in the spring.

No matter what the flower,
it only lasts a few days
so they must be enjoyed while they are beautiful.
(Like life)
While I was taking these pictures
a cute, little furry vole ran across my foot.
Ain't nature grand ???

Today was picture perfect .
Mollie and I spent it at the farm with our buddies.

It is ending with a beautiful sunset.
A perfect ending to a perfect day.

Everywhere a Finch, Finch

There has been a recent influx in Finches..

There were at least a dozen visible to me
when a took this picture but it was
impossible to get them all in one shot
they are very camera shy.

This morning
my birdbath went from being X rated
to this.

There are lots of babies begging their Moms for food
especially at the bird feeder.
The hummingbirds had difficulty
getting to their feeder due to the traffic jam.

Several of them were picking up bits
of straw and sticks
to start another nest.

Three years ago with a little pushing
from my neighbors,
I set out in search of a  buddy.
My neighbors , Debbie and Ken, drove me
to check out some puppies.
We picked this one out of at least twenty others
were told that we would have to come back
in two weeks
so she could get her last shots.

Meet "Snickers".
Debbie and I went to pick up "Snickers"
and came home with.....

How could I resist a face like that
"Snickers" would need a buddy.
(The look on Kens face
when we got home was priceless.
He was so afraid that Debbie had gotten
one as well . He doesn't like dogs.) Mollie...
Mollie, ( I found out later),
was the runt of the litter and did she ever
have an attitude.
They are both very smart
but Mollie was spiteful and very yappy.
After two weeks ,
I was ready to shoot myself  so
I gave her to a good home and  was left with this.

I renamed "Snickers".
Her name is now Mollie because all she heard
for two weeks was...
"no Mollie"..."Bad Mollie", etc.
She knew "Mollie" much better than "Snickers".
P.S. Ken loves Mollie..she can do no wrong.

I was walking Mollie early this AM
and lo and behold !!

(my new desktop pic)

They should be flying any day now.
Thanks Mom, for keeping them safe..

Some of the memories of my childhood
seem like
they just happened yesterday.

When we were growing up,
we rarely ate dinner with our parents.
Ann and I were fed early, around five.
They ate late...eight or so.
Sundays we all ate together mid day....
Usually a big meal with all the trimmings.
Attendance was mandatory.

On holidays and special occasions,
my father always had on a red smoking jacket  with a bow tie or his rooster tie for more
casual fare.

I vividly remember his drinking iced coffee.
When he added the cream,
we would gather around to see
what images we could see as the cream
mixed in to the coffee..

Today, I usually drink two cups of coffee
each morning.
When I don't have time for the second cup,
I have iced coffee later in the day...
Still watching the cream designs.
