WET ,WET, WET

One day this past week we had 36 hours of rain..
steady rain with downpours..

My garage looked like a Chinese laundry.
Fortunately Mollie and I are well equipped
to weather the storm.
We can usually keep dry long enough
for a walk.

She never seems to mind weather
unless it's a torrential downpour.
I don't like it when it's windy...

As I was writing this, the sun was starting to shine.
YAY!!!

MOLLIE HAS AN OWEEEEE !!!

     Poor Mollie.
She's had a couple of rough days.
Several evenings ago she had been spending
an inordinate amount of time licking her butt .
I checked her with a flashlight
and,
seeing more blood than I liked,
took her to her veterinarian the next day,
where he incised and drained
an anal gland abscess.
She whimpered a little, wriggled a little
but all in all was a little trooper..
It was harder on me , I think.
She was put on antibiotics twice a day
and a shot to get her started..
AND
warm soaks to her butt twice a day
for a few minutes. HA!!
Molly knew I was concerned about how
we were going to accomplish this
but
on the way home she whispered in my ear
"Don't worry Mom, we can do it.."

and

She was right.

Easy peasy....she's so good.

BLACK FRIDAY

Today is known as Black Friday...

A day when all the stores
see which one can open the earliest....
and
those who partake in this ritual
see who can be the first in to the store unharmed.
(Or who can stand in line the longest).

ENJOY !!!

TURKEY DAY...

I'm one lucky turkey and have a lot
to be thankful for.

I'm thankful for my loving, nurturing family
and
all my friends here at the farm.
Most of all, I'm thankful that I'm allowed to live
to see another Thanksgiving.
I have a wonderful life.

Happy Thanksgiving

A special thanks to those of you
who are having ham today..
(Sorry Ginger and Mary ann) .

BIRDS OF FALL

Fall brings the return of some birds
that haven't been around all summer.

Bluebird

Wren

The cardinals never leave..

Where do the robbins spend the summer???
Is this the same robin that I did the post on last spring??
Notice the cleavage...

And this bluejay!!!
I have tried and tried to get a picture of him..
He's out there every morning
but escapes quicker than my shutter can click.
I'll keep trying..

Crested Titmouse

My favorites...Chickadee
I love their coloring.

The ever present yellow finch....

eating me out of house and home...

Downy Woodpecker

And the lookouts....

The red tailed hawks...Ever vigilant

And the best bird of all.....

"Don't bother me with those birds.
I'm watching my programs"

FARM FUN EVEN ON A DREARY DAY

I felt in need of a farm fix
even though it was really a gloomy day.

When I arrived,
I was met by Moonbeam, Scarlet and Donny Brasco.
They were all wet and muddy and didn't seem to care.

Even Minnerva was droopy but still maintaining
her vigil over the garden
which has been put to bed for the winter.

Of course we had to visit
the latest additions to the farm....
Leo, Ginger and Mary Ann.
The piggies love to have their bellies rubbed.

The riding arena looks wonderful..
complete with the latest in country bathroom facilities.
Won't that be a great place to ride???

Playful Sophia and Leo..
(Sophia won't be so playful tomorrow because
she's getting spayed).
I can sympathize...

Chickens trying to stay dry...

I'm sure this one has a name ..
I just can't keep up.

The hens seem to be laying eggs all over the place..
This one is on a work bench next to a sleeping kitty....
It's amazing to me that all of these animals
get along with each other..
We need to take a lesson from them...
Thanks Bee Haven Acres for a fun ,
although dreary, day.

BRIBERY ???

Every day between 4-5
Mollie goes for her afternoon walk
followed by her supper.
Today I was watching something on TV
and she started  nagging me at 3:45.
I wasn't budging so...

She disappeared for a few minutes, came back
and dropped this at my feet.

I keep several of these little milk bones
on a bench at the foot of my bed
just in case she gets hungry.
If I offered her one she wouldn't eat it
but usually makes quick work of them at bedtime.

Do you think this is a form of doggy bribery??
Her "treat"  didn't work..
She still had to "wait a little bit".
Too funny..wish I could read her mind sometimes.

Sew On....And Sew Fourth: I'm Back!

I was fooling around with The Bee Haven Mavens Blog
this AM and it looks like I "borrowed" it...
Sorry Bev ....
I'm tempted to put Maddie and the piggies here too..
Hmmmmm...better not.

SHE DOESN'T MISS A TRICK

Whatcha see out there Mollie???

There's a truck down the road.
I think it's delivering shingles,
a pretty common occurence around here  these days.

I never would have noticed it but Mollie
is always on the alert for anything that moves.

With the zoom, this is what she saw.
But she has no zoom, I think.
SO, this is what she saw.

Good eye, Mollie.

FIREY SKIES

When I was taking the trash out this evening
it looked as though the skies
were on fire.

I'm glad that I didn't miss this sunset.
It's amazing how fast the sky changes.

This morning I was looking out of my kitchen window.
(Something I do quite often )
I noticed that since the snow two weekends ago,
we can see the creek again.
All the thistle has been flattened down so we
have an unobstructed view.
I saw the ducks and thought I'd take a picture.
It was not until I downloaded it that I actually
saw what I had photographed.

I wonder if they had music for their dance,

and who their choreographer was...

CLEAN UP

This weekend the neighborhood seemed to be dedicated to the cleanup of the damages
caused by last weekends snow storm.

There are many scarred trees in the area.
As I showed you in previous posts,
 some are not salvageable.

There are lots of piles like this....

waiting for the township to collect.

and

there are those that withstood the wrath
of the wet heavy snow...

I like to see the way the frost melts as the sun
moves across the sky.

Even the shade from a tree delays the inevitable.

Enjoy this beautiful day...
I think I'll mow.

TIME TO PUT IT TO BED FOR THE WINTER

This is the time of year when
the pond gets closed up for the winter.

I cover it with a net to keep leaves out.
A deicer is left in it to keep a hole in the ice.
This permits the methane gases  that are formed by rotting leaves and will kill
any life forms overwintering in the pond ,
to escape.

At this time I have no fish, just bullfrogs.
Yesterday there was a bullfrog on top of the
net swimming around trying to find the water.
I helped him find the open side and in he went.
Oops, no camera..
I was too dirty to go in and get it...

I guess I got that done just in time.

The filter gets cleaned as well as pumps
and UV light.

All dried and put away until spring.

As I was on a roll, I kept going...
mostly due to the weather forcast,
(more on that to come)
The porch furniture is away for the winter..
I mowed...

Max is the smart one..
I'm so stiff, I can hardly get out of this chair..
(second day in a row).
Tomorrow is another day..
