DIAMONDS IN THE SNOW

No,
My lens isn't dirty.

The snow lately has looked like it has been infused with diamonds.

It would be much prettier if it didn't have our footprints
running through it..

Sorry, but the pictures were an afterthought.
Sometimes  I look at things and they scream "Blog"...
There are times that a should probably turn a deaf ear.
Ha!! I have one of those, well, almost.

AS PROMISED

Several weeks ago,
I promised that I would show you the shenanigans
that Max and Mollie go through almost every morning.
It's a little dark but after three attempts,
I think it's the it's the best I can do this time of year.
Before I can take the video,
I have to turn  on some lights, grab the camera, set it, etc.
It's not very sunny this early in the day.
Max ended it by escaping to safety under the couch.
(full screen helps a little).

My "old" neighbors stopped by this afternoon
to see me Mollie...
Ken wouldn't move his hand until she moved..good grief.

The end of a productive day.

NATURES THERMOMETER

When I was a little girl,
we always looked out at the Rhododendron
to see how cold it was.
This week it has been unusually cold.

Each variety of rhododendron has a different cold hardiness,
which varies the temperature at which the leaves roll up.
Rolling exposes the waxy surface of the top leaf,
while protecting the softer, more permeable underside.

The leaves roll to preserve moisture when dry winds occur at the same time as cold weather.

Leaves will unroll themselves naturally when the temperature returns to above freezing.

When it's just cold the leaves stay flat and are more spread out.
These poor things are just plain cold.
 ( I think I just saw one shiver ).
Our single digit temps this week have taken their toll.
I have to say that I like this better than the summer 90's.
The days have been  bright and sunny...not much wind.
My kind of days..
Not so bad if you dress for it.
We could use some moisture though....We are way down.
We've only had 6 inches as compared to 36 inches last year.
Next week they say it will be 50!!!

BRRRR !!!!

It's a bright, sunny day......

But...
( Ignore the time..I can't figure out how to set it..)
This was taken after Mollie and I went for our 45 minute walk.
We were back around 8AM.
It really wasn't bad out except for wind chills at minus ten degrees.
I'm able to stay pretty protected if I stay in the neighborhood.
We didn't venture out in to the open areas today.

This tree is full of birds taking shelter..Can you find them?

They decided to make it a little easier for you.

The bird feeders are getting a workout today..

Tomorrow our high is to be 17 degrees..single digit lows...
40 next week..crazy weather..
Stay warm everyone.

CLOSET SPACE

When one has a minimum amount of space,
it is necessary to maximize the space available.

This seems to be wasted space and it's on both sides of this closet.
SO...

I had two shelves installed between the originals on both sides.

I had two adjustable shelves installed between the old ones.

There were a lot of my stamping supplies
stored in cabinets in the garage.
I'm wondering if it will all fit....

It did !!!
Now all I have to do is remember where things are.
Enjoy this cold, blustery day.

A RARE SIGHT

This is so unusual,
I just had to take a picture.

This is a much more familiar sight.

They love each other ??
One of these days, I'll figure out how to do a video with this camera because they are so comical rolling around with each other every  morning.
Then
I'll have to remember how to put it on U Tube.

"LEAVE IT"

Mollie is a hunter !!!
She chases anything that moves.
We have way too many squirrels here for my liking.
 She's loving it.
Walking her is a non stop tug of war
  and NO fun for me.
So...

I broke down and bought her myself
a shock collar.
She learned "leave it" when she was a puppy.
That,  combined with  a shock,
has made her afraid of the  "furry rats".
Now she goes the other way when she sees one .
I actually like squirrels.
My sister and I raised one when we were kids..
We had to get let him ("Chippy" ) go  when he started chewing the wallpaper from around the windows. He was always loose in our bedroom.

Ann (my sister) put this in Mollies stocking
at Christmas time this year.
At least she can't chase this one.

She made quick work of it...

WHAT TO DO

What did you do on this gloomy Sunday ?
I just saw on TV that the visibility is one mile..
We never saw the sun today
unlike Pittsburgh where it was in the 60's.

When we ( Mollie, Max and I) got up this AM,
the streets were filled  with crows.

Mollie and I set out for our walk and the noise was deafening..
and I thought Starlings were bad.

Around the corner from us the streets were solid birds.
( I didn't have my camera ).

I spent some time bird watching...

Nice, pretty. quiet birds...

Doing the wash and  the ironing...

Cleaning...

And a little decorating...

I filled up the day with little things
and I'm all ready for a new week.
How about you???

JANUARY THAW ??

We are only in to the second week of January
and we have had four snow "events".
BUT...

This weekend we may hit 60 degrees if we have sunny skies.

The Spring bulbs are poking their little heads thru the mulch.
( It looks like there are new buds on that bush as well.

Early Spring ?
I think it's just a preview.
We need a stretch of cold weather to kill bugs and some vegetation.
Recent winters have been too warm.
Be careful what you wish for ??

TENACITY

She never gives up.."Tenacious" she is..

She may not be tired but I sure am.

 Just a minute more...

"Does this mean I won?"

"Gotta rest up for the next round."
