MARAUDING FINCHES

I have a Weeping Cherry Tree that is beautiful this time of year.

Beautiful until the Purple Finches have their way with it.

Blossom by blossom, they deflower the tree.

It only took them two days to do this.

The tree is stripped with the exception of the branch tips
while the ground beneath is covered with the petals
discarded by the finches.
What is it about the base of these flowers that attracts them ??

Oh my, I didn't know they could be that destructive! It's usually a strong Spring winds that wipe out our blossoms!

Missy, I have never in my life seen anything like that !! What could you do...it would make me crazy mad. I am always clapping my hands to run starlings away.:):) Usually they all poop at once when I do that. LOL. I do love your pretty tree. We just went to town for 50 dollars worth of bird seed. My husband has been laughing about a lady spending 66 dollars on cat food , he saw this last weekend. So I laughed about the birdseed. oxoxo, Susie

What a shame! I never heard of birds doing that before. I hope someone posts an explanation in the comments.

Must be good to eat! And probably welcome nutrition for them after migrating back from winter.

Oh how sad. I did not know the finches would do this. We lived at one home that had a pretty weeping cherry. I loved the blossoms.

Missy, dear,

That beautiful!

Then, the expected spring came florida!

That is gorgeous ... it has honey in small flowers?

Honey, I'm glad you enjoyed the awards!

Took me to answer because I went through a bad cold and improved when I went to my sister's farm there ... the internet is slow and I could not write on many blogs.

Thank you for your affection!

kisses,

Oh My Goodness. I had no idea they would do that. There must be some nectar in the center of the flower or at the base of each petal, don't you think? I never knew that could happen!
Hope you had a good Monday. I am late getting around today...xo Diana

House finches love nectar and are known for chowing down on cherry blossoms....(little known fact). Great pics!!!
